About the event

SAMAVESHA- A DANCE INTERPRETATION OF A MAHABHARATHA STORY

SAMAVESHA is an evening-length work that explores two such characters from the Mahabharata, Shikhandi and Brihannala. In the capable hands of N. Srikanth and Aswathy Nair, SAMAVESHA has been produced harnessing years of experience in the liminal spaces of gender identity and with extensive research into Sanskrit and vernacular texts of Mahabharata. Srikanth is a master of female roles in the all-male Bhagavata Mela of Melattur in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu, having performed in this capacity for over 4 decades. Aswathy’s exemplary work as a film director, especially in her current project of bringing to the screen an autobiography of a transwoman’s journey in Tamil Nadu, reflects her commitment to her subject and their story. The artists have worked closely with their musicians to compose original music
