The Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple of Austin and Sri Venkatesh Temple of Austin recently lit up with vibrant hues as they hosted a delightful Holi celebration, creating an atmosphere of sheer jubilation and camaraderie. The event brought together members of the community who immersed themselves in the festivities, marking the occasion with music, dance, and an explosion of colors.

The air buzzed with excitement as attendees danced to the rhythm of popular Bollywood tunes, embracing each other with vibrant powders, creating a spectacle of joy and laughter. From the mesmerizing beats to the kaleidoscope of colors, the celebration embodied the essence of togetherness and happiness.


However, the festivities didn't stop there. The event was packed with an array of activities that left everyone spellbound. Attendees indulged in a grand Food mela, gathered around the Holi Bonfire, and witnessed captivating cultural performances. The cultural program featured students from various local dance schools, showcasing their talents in a dance drama portraying the mythological tale of Sita’s upharan and Ram’s victory over Ravana.

Vaishali Tendolkar, a dedicated member of the Temple Executive Committee and Cultural Committee Chair for the past three years, expressed her profound sense of gratitude for the opportunity to lead the cultural program. "I feel blessed because leading the cultural program allows me to serve the temple," she shared earnestly. Tendolkar's commitment to service reflects her belief that serving humanity is akin to serving the divine, a sentiment that resonates deeply within her. "Service to humanity is service to Lord," she emphasized, highlighting the spiritual significance of selfless acts of kindness. "It expresses the divinity embodied in us, broadens our hearts, and removes the evil of egoism. To me, service is the most efficient instrument on the path of self-realization."

Tendolkar's devotion to the cultural program was evident in the thoughtful selection process, which resonated strongly with the local community and garnered immense popularity among local dance schools. Reflecting on the challenges of managing registrations, she remarked, "Managing the number of registrations becomes challenging at times, as we strive to accommodate as many performances as we can."

For Tendolkar, volunteering at the temple is not merely an obligation but a heartfelt commitment inspired by the teachings of Baba, who emphasized the significance of action over mere words. "Helping hands are higher action than just praying lips," she affirmed, echoing Baba's timeless wisdom. Tendolkar believes that volunteering purifies actions and intentions, bringing individuals closer to divinity. This conviction was palpable in the energy and enthusiasm displayed by the volunteers throughout the event, exemplifying the transformative power of selfless service.

The event was graced by dignitaries from the city of Cedar Park, including Jim Penniman-Morin was elected Mayor of Cedar Park and other members of city council, who expressed their joy in celebrating the festival of Holi.
